Chinese martial arts student Chen Zhen (Jet Li) is finding out in Kyoto, Japan, once he learns his mentor has died during a match against Ryuichi Akutagawa (Jackson Liu). Returning home to the Japanese-occupied Shanghai of 1937, bird genus challenges Ryuichi to a fight and simply defeats him. closing his master was started, bird genus has associate degree autopsy performed. Meanwhile, word of his martial arts ability entices new students hoping to check with him, creating his teacher's son, Huo Ting-An (Chin Siu Ho), jealous.
